Red Carpet at 2013 TCM Film Festival

On Thursday, April 25, 2013 I was privileged to attend the Red Carpet Ceremonies for the premiere of the restoration of the film, "Funny Girl" during the Turner Classic Movies Film Festival.

Walking the red carpet that night were many stars of classic film such as, in no particular order of importance:

• Eva Marie Saint of "On The Waterfront" and "North By Northwest," 
• Ann Jeffries, who is remembered for her television work, such as 1950's "Topper" series. 
• Marvin Kaplan of It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, 
• Robert Hays, of "Airplane," 
• Ann Blyth who played Veda in "Mildred "Pierce," 
• Tippi Hedren of "The Birds" and "Marnie," 
• Theodore Bikel of "My Fair Lady,"
• Jane Withers of Giant and was a child star in the 1930's celebrated her 87th Birthday.
• Leonard Maltin, Film Critic
• France Nuyen, "South Pacific"
• Mitzi Gaynor, "South Pacific"
• Marge Champion, "The Swimmer"

It was great to meet these stars and to see all the fans across from us in the bleachers cheering them on.  

The film "Funny Girl" has been fully restored and it was showing that night to VIP ticket holders at the TCL Chinese Theater (formerly "Grauman's Chinese Theater."  

I just read today that the Chinese Theater will be going through extensive renovation when the TCMFF ends, so I'm glad I had a chance to see all of this before then.

TCM to Feature 3 Busby Berkeley films on May 4

On May 4, 2013 TCM will feature three of Busby Berkeley's films:

• Gold Diggers of 1933 at 8 pm est
• Footlight Parade at 10 pm est
• 42nd Street at 12 midnight est

2013 Turner Classic Movie Film Festival Press Conference Day - April 25, 2013

I feel so privileged to not only attend the Turner Classic Film Festival (TCMFF), but to be able to attend with press credentials.

This is my first year at the TCMFF so, I'm using this opportunity to just find out how it all works and absorb as much as I can.  I have attended other festivals, but nothing like this.

I have been away from my classic movie site for awhile now, while I have pursued other interests, and it feels great to be back with classic films once more.

I first got down to Hollywood Boulevard at the Roosevelt Hotel where the festival is being held on Wednesday where I attended the Press Conference.  During the press conference we learned what to expect and got to meet some of the TCM people, like host Robert Osborne, Ben Mankiewicz and more. It was so nice to be talking classic movies again and I enjoyed learning more about the festival.

After the press conference, the lobby of the hotel was being used to record "spots" for the channel by Robert Osborne.  He conducted several three minute spots with several different actors, such as the wonderful Jane Withers and James Karen.  I was glad to see them both before I had to leave for the day.
